BEHIND THE CURTAIN: Culture and Influence of Afro Cuban Dance

Join the Ruth Page Center for the Arts for an immersive dance learning experience focused on Afro Cuban and African inspired movement. Victor Alexander, Director of the Ruth Page School of Dance will lead a 45-minute Afro Cuban class followed by a discussion on African influence in today’s dance landscape. The afternoon will conclude with a sneak preview performance of Kia Smith’s new work Steady Going, set on the Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company, which will premiere at the Ruth Page Center's Fall Showcase, October 14 & 15, 2022.

The Ruth Page Center for the Arts proudly continues its collaborative dance programming with Northeastern Illinois University through the Ruth Page Dance Series, presenting the finest local, national, and international dance artists to the NEIU community. Additionally, the Dance Series offers unique opportunities to engage with guest artists through demonstrations and master classes, as well as exciting behind-the-scenes experiences.
