Event Description

In honor and respect for the life of George Floyd, Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC) has determined it is no longer appropriate to host the Nan Giordano Day virtual dance event on Tuesday, June 9.  Instead, to honor Mr. Floyd’s June 9  burial in Houston, all proceeds from the cancelled GDC event will be matched dollar for dollar and donated to  National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI).

For decades, GDC has been giving opportunities to those who would not otherwise experience the joy and power of the arts. Such commitment has been a critical mainstay of GDC’s educational programming and has exposed thousands upon thousands of under resourced children to the innovative Jazz Dance/Science & Health arts integration program, as well as providing 800 students and their families access each year to performances through their Free Ticket Program.

The National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) works with families and children from birth to age 8. From its inception, NBCDI’s focus has been achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable children who suffer from the dual legacies of poverty and racial discrimination. For more information about NBCDI visit nbcdi.org.
