Floor Barre with Edith Barrágan

Zena Rommett Floor-Barre Technique® Class: perform common ballet exercises on the floor, with a focus on correct placement and muscle activation. Open to all levels.

About Edith Barrágan:
Since 2018, Edith Barrágan Guthrie has been a member of the faculty at the Ruth Page School, where she is a Ballet Instructor and Repertory Coach. Edith loves to teach Dance, and is certified by the School of American Ballet to teach all levels of Ballet, from Primary to Professional. Edith has been teaching Ballet since 1985 in Mexico, France, and the USA.  She was Ballet Master and Director of the Ballet Program at the University of California-Universidad Autonoma de Baja California in Mexicali, Mexico.  In Mexico City, Mexico, she was Ballet Instructor and Choreographer at the Escuela de Televisa, Centro de Educacion Artistica; and Ballet Instructor at the School of Ballet of the National Institute of Fine Arts.  Before joining the Ruth Page School faculty, Edith taught Ballet classes from Primary to Advanced levels at the Faubourg School of Ballet in Hanover Park, Illinois. In 2019, she earned her certification in the Zena Rommett Floor Barre curriculum.  She uses this curriculum to teach students to find their vertical alignment, to stretch safely, and to learn to control the body.

Highlights from Edith's performing career as a professional Ballet dancer feature performance as a member of the Royal Ballet of Wallonie in Charleroi, Belgium; the Ballet du Quai in Brussels, Belgium; and as a soloist with the Festival Ballet of Guanajuato in Guanajuato, Mexico.  Her credits as choreographer and director include Assistant Director of the Paralelo 32 Contemporary Dance Company in Mexicali, Mexico; and Assistant Choreographer for the Ballet Nacional de Panama.

Edith attended elementary and high school at the Escuela Nacional de Danza in Mexico City, Mexico.  She continued her training in Ballet at the Boston Ballet School; the Paris Opera Ballet; the Escuela Nacional de Ballet in Havana, Cuba; and Maurice Bejart's Ballet of the Twentieth Century in Brussels, Belgium.  The list of distinguished teachers with whom she has studied includes Laura Alonso, Richard Thomas, Raymond Franchetti, Debra Wayne, and David Howard.  In addition to her teaching certification by the School of American Ballet, she is qualified to teach Cuban Ballet Technique as well as Russian and Royal Academy of Dance Techniques.

 


Join us at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts for Open Technique Classes with the Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company*, every other Friday at 9:30am. The class will feature rotating guest artists and Ruth Page School of Dance faculty. Method and technique will vary by teacher.

*The Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company is an elite group of pre-professional dancers, ages 17-25 who train daily, 9am-3:30pm, August – June at the Ruth Page School of Dance. The program provides continued comprehensive technique training, unique performance experiences, focused study with guest artists and choreographers, and travel to our International Sister Schools in Cuba, Italy and Spain.
