Links Hall Open House: The Unteachable Workshop

Event Type
Workshop
Event Description

The Unteachable Workshop will give an overview of The Unteachable School’s approach to creating physical theater. Starting with observations of the natural world, the actor-creator’s physical imagination will be provoked to create a rich and deep interior world for a character, a story or even something more abstract. Through playfulness and physicality, the goal is to give artists practical tools for helping to bring their own artistic visions to life.

Classes will be taught by two members of The Unteachable School’s Teaching Ensemble, Marc Frost and Breon Arzell, each of whom have been teaching and creating physical theater for over a decade in Chicago.

All experience levels welcome!

Free to attend. 25 spots available.

The Unteachable approach is all about helping artists achieve the impossible by uncovering something they already know yet may lack the vocabulary to express. Our approach is heavily influenced by the work of Jacques Lecoq and the spirit of his international studio in Paris. Students can expect to be challenged to strip away old habits and discover their core artistic values while simultaneously developing tools for physical performance, collaboration and ensemble building.

As of September 10, 2021, proof of vaccination for individuals ages 12 and up OR a negative COVID-19 PCR test (taken within 72 hours of the event) is required for entrance to Links Hall. Please see our website for additional details about these policies, and ongoing health and safety measures.

Visitors, staff, and artists are still expected to wear masks at all times in public spaces, or when two or more people are gathered.
