Call For Proposals
Event Description

Art on theMART is seeking Chicago-based artists and companies who have robust practices in visual art and dance to create an original moving-image artwork and accompanying audio to be projected on Art on theMART. The projection(s) will be a part of Art on theMART’s 2022 season celebrating Chicago’s vibrant dance community, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

This commission provides a unique opportunity to honor Chicago’s dance history, present, and future with an inventive and experimental approach. Finalists will be invited to submit a full proposal that includes a video sample and commissioned artists or artist collaborations will be supported with a budget to provide final materials to be shown on the facade of theMART. The deadline for submissions is 9:00 a.m. on August 9, 2021.

Special thank you to the support from See Chicago Dance and the Chicago Dancemakers Forum. For more information on qualifications, applications, design criteria and more, please visit: artonthemart.com/submissions.

Art on theMART is the largest permanent time-based media art projection system in the world and an innovative platform for public art that covers nearly three acres of the river facade of theMART in downtown Chicago. The transformative project, privately funded by Vornado Realty Trust, launched with the inaugural set of projections on September 29, 2018, attracting more than 32,000 people. It has quickly emerged as a major international cultural destination. Art on theMart is active one hour each night, 9 months a year, based on an agreement with the City of Chicago.
