Directed and Choreographed by Lorin Sookool
Conversation Moderated by Thobile Maphanga
Lorin Sookool is an independent South African dance artist. Her interests lie in personal politics and its relation to the wider contemporary socio-economic conversations. "Prayer Room" looks at the lived realities of three senior citizens during COVID-19 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal while Sookool traces a choreographic response in isolation, amongst unused church pews. This project was made possible through international virtual residency Co_Residency.

Join See Chicago Dance's latest program, Screendance Club: a radically casual watch-party and discussion of short dance films.
Different from a typical talk-back, Screendance Club aims to create an environment of open conversation and exploration--with artists, filmmakers, and viewers on an equal footing. SCD writers curate and facilitate conversations on viewing and interpreting dance on screen.
