Event Description

Grab a glass of wine and join us on Zoom for Wine with Wini, an intimate look at modern dance.  Each Friday at 7pm we'll explore in detail a different work from Company repertory, and we'll give you a detailed, insider look at how the dance was created.  Each Wine with Wini will feature a different artist  It's free, it's only 20 minutes, and it's BYOW.  Invite a couple friends!

Here's the schedule:

May 22 - I am (not) this body with Assitant Artistic Director Solomon Bowser
Choreographed in 2018 by Winifred Haun & Solomon Bowser, IANTB explores how we view "different" bodies (the bodies of women, people of color and people in wheelchairs), and how those bodies seem to be invisible or have less value.
Solomon & Wini will discuss the "picking section", and they both used the gesture of picking at the body to describe the alienation and hurt caused by being an "other".

May 29 - Promise with Assistant Choreographer Ariel Dorsey
The opening women's duet of Promise forms the foundation for everything that comes after it.  You'll learn how the contrasting phrases of the two women were developed, modified, and repeated throughout the work.  And you'll get to hear about it from a dancer who's performed both parts.

June 5 - Trashed with Mandy Milligan
Hear a dancer adapted to circus artist training and choreography.  Are those 2 highs scary?  How did we blend two radically different approaches to movement all in one dance?  Trashed was developed through a grant from The MacArthur Foundation.
