The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Career Counselor to provide specialized individual and group career counseling services to help members of the community identify, develop and manage their employment options. This is currently a remote position with the expectation of an eventual return to The Fund’s Chicago office. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Career Counselor plays an important role in helping individuals in the performing arts and entertainment community develop and manage work-life skills and strategies to address the episodic nature of unemployment in the industry. Specifically, the Career Counseling Team works with clients to develop new or supplemental income streams as well as an entrepreneurial framework to their career management. These individual career plans are accomplished via self-assessment, career exploration activities, and labor market research, all focused on meeting career and economic goals. The Career Counselor will also work with dancers who are exploring training and education to transition beyond performing. Additionally, the Career Counselor will contribute to research and implementation of best practices in guiding individuals in the performing arts and entertainment community towards greater economic stability. The Career Counselor will provide backup for the Central Region Social Services staff and serve as a trusted representative of The Actors Fund. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Master's degree in Career Counseling, Social Work or related field. 
  • At least three years of career counseling or coaching experience. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience in administrating and analyzing assessment instruments
  • Knowledge of local education and employment/training community resources
  • Experience planning and conducting training sessions, workshops or seminars
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Goal-oriented, motivated by the use of data and producing measurable results
