Dance and Movement Coordinator

The Old Town School seeks a passionate individual with a firm knowledge of a variety dance forms to work closely with our Director of Education to maintain a comprehensive dance curriculum for adults, teens, and children.

Examples of Duties: 

  • Maintenance of dance programs in the Filemaker system to include:
    • Schedules rooms for dance classes, workshops, and recitals.
    • Manages computer program entries for scheduling, describing, canceling, and changing dance offerings.
    • With guidance from the Director of Education, schedules dance residency room reservations.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and emcees dance program performances including: room reservations, lighting and sound technician, volunteers, and booking studio space for rehearsals.
  • Counsels adult students and parents on classes and appropriate levels of study.
  • Monitors maintenance and equipping of dance studios. Assesses dance equipment, books, music, props, and materials. Researches necessary purchases in consultation with the Director of Education. Makes recommendations for supporting materials to school store and Resource Center.
  • Researches and recommends new dance classes and workshops to expand the current slate of offerings.
  • Promotes the School’s dance and movement programming in the dance and arts communities:
  • Monitors the Dance and Movement social media page.
  • Acts as spokesperson for the Old Town School at its dance-related special events, appearances, and publicity.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with outside organizations for dance-related projects including attendance at citywide dance events and convenings.
  • Assists with ongoing management of the dance residency program.
  • Researches and recommends new dance classes and workshops to expand the current slate of offerings.
Skills & Qualifications: 
  • Expertise in the language and practice of music and dance required.
  • At least two years of prior experience in administration of similar dance programs is required.
  • Must be computer capable including Mac and/or PC skills, ideally with Filemaker experience.
  • Must be an effective communicator in verbal, electronic, and written forms, and have experience working with diverse groups.
