2020 Online Premiers

Don't miss our first ever virtual season premiering Friday, July 31st and Saturday, August 1st on Facebook Premiere and IGTV at 5:30pm.

We can't gather in a park together, this summer, but that hasn't stopped us from dancing! Our artists worked together online from home and in our beautiful, outdoor, appropriately distanced park spaces to create dance films for YOU. Piped directly to your favorite web-enabled device.

We thought the pandemic would be over by now. What potential lies within the possibility that arts organizations might have to start over?

“When there’s a crisis—not that we’ve ever experienced anything like this—we do what we have to do. I refuse to let this be the death of our organization.”

Chicago Tap Theatre (CTT) presents “30 Feet Together, 6 Feet Apart” Sunday, July 26, at 3 p.m. CDT live on its streaming platforms. “30 Feet Together, 6 Feet Apart” is a celebration of the power and necessity of dance and live music, and a vision of how dance performances on a concert stage can be presented at this time. This show includes a live jazz trio featuring funk and soul master JC Brooks as host and vocalist along with tap dancing by CTT.

SummerDance in Place

A new citywide, at-home version of the summertime tradition invites Chicagoans to plan smaller, socially-distant dance parties in their homes and backyards, on front porches and elsewhere with up to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors — and connect via the broadcast or social media. Presented by DCASE with the Chicago Park District, the reimagined series is filmed in Millennium Park and at Chicago Park district locations, featuring skyline views and iconic imagery that residents have been missing.

Review: Cinematic ‘New Dances’ embraces the choreographic constraints of COVID

I sat down with Melissa Thodos in 2017 on the eve of Thodos Dance Chicago’s final performance. We talked about how Chicago dance had changed since she started her pick up group, Melissa Thodos & Dancers, in 1992. It had gotten harder to keep up with the day-to-day of running a full-time dance company. Thodos wanted to have more freedom to spend time with her kids. Funding was more difficult to come by. By folding the company, Thodos, in a way, returned to her roots, developing a new organizational structure centered more heavily on education and artist development.

Raks Inferno: BLM Solidarity + Pride Edition

At Raks Inferno, we've never been quiet about racial injustice, LGBTQ+ equality, or the fact that trans rights are human rights. It's personal: Most of us are LGBTQ+, and most of us are POC (specifically, Asian American).

We believe Black Lives Matter.

So this month we're partnering with Lighthouse Foundation - we're raising dollars to advance justice for Black LGBTQ+ people in Chicagoland. And we've featuring some incredible friends from Teatro ZinZanni and the Full Moon Jams.
