Sara Zalek is an artist obsessed with time travel, experimental science, hybrid animals, permaculture, and the intentional act of transformation. Inspired by Hijikata, Kazuo Ono, Yoko Ono, Pina Bausch, David Bowie, poetry, fluxus, and expressionism, she  aims to develop greater openness, acute listening, and fierce collaboration while embodying the collective psyche.

Engaging otherness as it relates to transformative power, Sara uses Butoh training, poetry, drawing, and object-making as starting points. Her creative endeavors are specifically meant to ignite dialog with the public using unexpected encounters; always with unknowns, often with humor, with an intentional focus on the moment when the self is limitless potential.

Sara is most excited to share experiences with artists currently in residence at High Concept Laboratories and MANA Contemporary‒to explore cross-disciplinary work and play, and to be in dialog that encourages more active and direct participation in the pursuit of a thriving economic model for the arts in Chicago and America.
