Event Description

Can You Hear Us Now? The Queer Tap Dance Revolution is a production directed by Molly Smith that will premiere in Chicago at the Edge Theater in June 2024. This multimedia tap dance production will be performed by Chicago Tap Theatre along with guest artists from the Chicago queer tap community. The show will feature original choreography from CTT dancers inspired by, referencing, and in honor of historical figures in tap dance and jazz music history from the LGBTQIA+ community. This production not only shares queer stories, it also gives Chicago Tap Theatre dancers the opportunity to grow as choreographers and artists as they research and get inspired by these historical tap figures. This production will be a celebration of queer culture and history and an exploration of identity and societal expectations.

There will be a panel of queer Chicago dancemakers including Dawn Heilung and more. Gerber Hart will have a display of queer Chicago dance archives to explore as well! The event will be free, with suggested donations of $10 each to CTT and Gerber Hart.
