Event Description

Lights/9 is set in an industrial type space, as a collaboration with Franz Betz, a light artist from Hanover, Germany. This improv-based piece interwines movement and light with space and time; accented by Chromabeat's live accompanying music. The program also features the return of Vicissitudes by Ginny Ching-Yin Lo, premiered in fall, 2021 at C5 with music composed by Chromabeats. Vicissitudes is an expression on how to retain joy while coping with stress by having the supportive web of human connection.

As reviewed in See Chicago Dance: What is impressive is the diversity in Lo's choreography. Despite the entire show being composed by a single artist, each piece felt fresh and exciting.

About Identity Performing Arts

Identity is a not-for-profit organization established in 2016 by founder and artistic director, Ginny Ching-Yin Lo, focused on teaching dance to the underserved community and creating independent dance projects. Lo has performed in the U.S., China, France and Germany with her original works. In 2020 fall Identity expanded beyond teaching and transited to a full season professional dance troupe and had presented the company's first live concert in 2021 fall. Since then Identity has performed locally in Chicago, Evanston, and internationally in Hanover, Germany. All works created for and performed by Identity dancers express the beauty of our individual identities, interconnected in unity. We invite you as our audience, to witness this intention with every dance work.
