During their time at High Concept Labs, dropshift dance Artistic Director Andrea Cerniglia has explored a creative process favoring ritual and intellectual endurance. The movement stands in contrast and complement to the musical work for piano and viola—a mediation on the spaces and musical communities of Gullickson’s homes in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Chicago. Spare movement sequence, intricate gesture, and nuanced character develop visual texture and image and bring the musical composition to life.
The performance of Open at hcl will also celebrate the release of the album version of Gullickson’s Openon his label, Two Labyrinths Records.
